SUDBURY'S VIRTUAL HIGH STREET
Supporting Sudbury's community and businesses through collaboration during the Coronavirus outbreak
supporting sudbury's independent businesses
through the covid-19 crisis and beyond
The outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) across the globe has had an unprecedented impact on our everyday lives, communities and businesses. In order to delay the spread of the virus, we are all being urged to play our part by staying home and following all recent government measures.
All businesses are having to rapidly adapt in order to continue to provide their services, whilst prioritising the welfare of their staff and customers. This crisis has had a particularly severe impact on our independent high street businesses. On 23 March the Government stepped up necessary measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus including the immediate closure of all non-essential premises. Sudbury's Virtual High Street has been compiled by Sudbury Town Council in partnership with the bestof Sudbury as a way to encourage supporting local businesses now to ensure they are here in the future.
Please note, this is intended as an online support resource. Shopping for essential provisions should be done as infrequently as possible and social distancing measures should be respected at all times. Click here for government advice.
ways to support local from home during the COVID-19 crisis
Order takeaway from a Sudbury restaurant (perhaps instead of your usual 'going out / date' night).
Use your essentials shop to buy fresh produce at Sudbury Market and local essential retailers (see below).
Follow, like and share your favourite Sudbury cafes, shops, restaurants and pubs on social media.
Leave a review of your favourite Sudbury businesses on platforms like Google, Trip Advisor and Facebook.
Join mailing lists to receive news, offers and promotions from your favourite Sudbury businesses.
Shop / order online or over the phone - our guide below outlines local delivery services.
Buy experience / gift vouchers to be redeemed at a later date, something to look forward to and a great way to support your favourite independents.
Please get in touch via the Sudbury Community Network if you or someone you know is in need of help and unable to leave their home for essentials, we're here to help.
Why shop locally?
Locally owned independent retailers are the backbone of our community; they provide a friendly, tailored service, local jobs, they often support community and charity initiatives and sell local produce. This all boosts our local economy, community cohesion and reduces your carbon footprint.
The £5 effect
The £5 effect demonstrates how easy it is to support our local economy. During this crisis you may have recently discovered some of the benefits of shopping locally - whether it's fresh fruit and veg from the market or an order with
your local farm shop. If every person in Sudbury and Great Cornard spent just £5 / week in Sudbury the direct
economic impact would be worth approximately £5 million annually to the local economy.
