Keeping Sudbury beautiful

Join Sudbury's Tidy Town Pledge

Sudbury Town Council and Babergh District Council are joining forces to combat careless littering in the town to create a cleaner environment for residents, businesses, shoppers and visitors of Sudbury.

With local residents, Sudbury Town Council's Community Warden Team host regular community litter picks throughout the year in and around Sudbury, These enthusiastic volunteers include town residents, schools, nurseries, scout groups and many more. The ongoing popularity of these events reflect the community's passion to ensure our beautiful town is always presented in the best possible light.

The Tidy Town Pledge aims to extend this community spirit to the doorsteps of local businesses, read on to sign up your Sudbury business to The Tidy Town Pledge.

In light of the COVID-19 crisis and with the extra time we are all spending in the great outdoors, the need for us all to play our in keeping our beautiful town tidy is more important than ever.

What can you do for Sudbury?

To enhance civic pride we would like all businesses and retailers to agree to and sign the pledge to say that you will

  • keep shop frontages clean and clear of litter

  • help spread the anti-litter message to both customers and staff (especially if staff smoke outside their own premises and throw cigarette ends on the ground)

  • ensure all waste is stored correctly prior to collections, preventing any hazards or eyesores

  • Get in touch (contacts below) if street bins near your premises require emptying

What we pledge to do

  • continue to lead on our weekly litter picks - we now have a rapidly expanding group who are out at least once a week collecting litter from known hotspot areas to boost the resource already supplied by the Councils

  • Feature you on this web page and on a dedicated Facebook page so that we can list all of the businesses who have joined the pledge

  • Give businesses a poster/certificate to display in their window to show their participation

  • Regular visits and updates from the Town Centre Manager and Community Warden Supervisor providing an opportunity to communicate any issues directly to Sudbury Town Council.
