An update for our customers: Outdoor markets and Coronavirus (COVID-19)
On 23 March the Government stepped up measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus including the immediate closure of all non-essential premises.
Within these guidelines, 'market stalls which offer essential retail, such as grocery and food' are permitted to trade as an essential service. With respect to these new guidelines we will offer a reduced market comprising only our essential retailers selling food items, outlined below. We will update which traders will be present at our Thursday and Saturday markets regularly.
The effectiveness of these measures depends upon everyone playing their part, please take note and expect the following if you are shopping at Sudbury Market at this time:
• Please respect the two metre separation zone between yourself and other customers - there will be barriers and road markings in place to assist with this (see images).
• Allow space for people to pay for their shopping, respecting a spaced queuing system
• Cashless payments are encouraged, please use card where possible
• Please get in touch with traders direct to use pre-order and collection services available for vulnerable customers or those shopping on behalf of them.
Thank you for you compliance and understanding at this time. Please keep safe and observe all government guidelines.
If you are able to purchase essential food items on behalf of a vulnerable family member, friend or neighbour we would encourage you to do so. Traders have assured us they are well stocked.
Traders: Thursday 9 April / Saturday 11 April

From the finest fresh local produce including fish, meat, cheese, fruit and vegetables to an incredible plant stall for the green fingered out there...
Fancy a treat or need a gift? We’ve got that covered too with clothes, accessories, jewellery, records, bric a brac, and beauty stalls. Many of our market traders have been selling on the streets of Sudbury for over 20 years! We are constantly welcoming new fresh faces onto our friendly market, including a space for local charities to raise money and champion their causes

Did you know?
Sudbury’s market is more than 1000 years old, mentioned in a charter dating back to 1009. The earliest reference to the town was in 799AD when Aelfhun, Bishop of Dunwich died here. When you visit Sudbury Market you're unlikely to miss a statue honouring Thomas Gainsborough, one of Britain’s most famous artists who was born in Sudbury in 1727. Princess Louise, Queen Victoria’s daughter, first unveiled the statue on 10 June 1913, just outside St Peter’s Church, now a bustling cultural venue hosting a year round calendar of markets, community events and concerts to compliment our outdoor market. The bustling Sudbury Farmers' market can be found here on the last Friday of every month.
