On 6th February this year Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, events and initiatives will take place throughout the year, culminating in a four day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June. The bank holiday will provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic milestone.

The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service.

SUDBURY'S JUBILEE WINDOWS DISPLAY TRAIL & PUBLIC VOTE!

Sudbury's businesses have been busy combing their Corgis, beautifiying with bunting, and flying the flag for The Queen's Platinum Jubilee! Enjoy Sudbury's brilliantly patriotic Jubilee window displays on our trail.

Vote for your favourite display below for a chance to be entered into a prize draw to win our Jubilee 'Sudbury Love Local Hamper' worth over £250 !
Voting closes on Wednesday 1st June and the People's Choice winning display will be revealed at our Street Party on Sunday 5th June as well as the prize draw for our hamper winner.

THE FESTIVAL OF SUFFOLK
TORCH RELAY

Sudbury is thrilled to be part of the 550 mile torch relay which will visit 250 towns and villages in Suffolk as part of a major event, celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Festival of Suffolk Torch Relay forms a key part of the celebrations which are set to become the county’s biggest ever community event. Selected community heroes will accompany the torch as it makes its way around the county.

On the evening of Wednesday 18th May, 9 nominated Sudbury heroes, together with The Mayor of Sudbury proudly carried the torch on a short lap around Sudbury town centre. Thank you to everyone who attended to cheer on our local heroes, it was a wonderful way to kick start Sudbury's Jubilee celebrations!

Free entry, all welcome

Please join us for day of celebration including: 

Mini Rowing Regatta, dog show & have a go agility, sheepdog & falconry displays, circus workshops, inflatables and children’s rides, craft stalls and hot & cold refreshments including licensed bars, all to the back drop of Sudbury's beautiful Friars Meadow. You can even have a go at kayaking or canoeing hosted by Sudbury Canoe Club!

 

Bring your deck chairs, picnic blankets, fold up chairs and come soak up the atmosphere...

THE QUEEN'S PLATINUM JUBILEE BEACONS

Thursday 2nd June 2022 | From 9.30pm

The Croft, Sudbury, CO10 1BA

Free, All Welcome

On 2nd June 2022 more than 1,500 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories, and one in each of the capital cities of Commonwealth countries in recognition of The Queen’s long and selfless service.

 

The beacons will enable local communities, individuals and organisations to pay tribute to HM The Queen as part of the official Platinum Jubilee Weekend of celebrations from 2nd to 5th June 2022. Please join us at The Croft for the lighting of Sudbury's Beacon in unison with the nation.

THE QUEEN'S GREEN CANOPY

in Sudbury

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

Everyone from individuals to Scout and Girlguiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and corporates will be encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees during the official planting season between October to March. Tree planting will commence again in October 2022, through to the end of the Jubilee year.

With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC will encourage planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations.

The Mayor of Sudbury plants a flowering Cherry Tree for
THE QUEEN'S GREEN CANOPY

 

On the 28th February 2022 the Town Mayor of Sudbury, Sue Ayres planted a flowering cherry tree at Sudbury Cemetery as part of The Queen's Green Canopy accompanied by a commemorative plaque.

Sudbury's Cherry Tree has become part of this ambitious nationwide project.
